This summer I traveled to Jacó, Costa Rica, to volunteer as an English teacher, joining my best friend who has been living there teaching after graduation. The students were full of energy and eager to practice their English, and we connected through games that made learning fun. I gained a deeper appreciation for Costa Rican culture and noticed both the similarities and the differences between their schools and my own experiences, with the most striking takeaway being the students’ passion for learning English. Just as impactful was watching my friend flourish on a nontraditional path abroad, an inspiring reminder of the many ways to thrive after graduation.
