This summer I had the privilege of joining the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Dental Brigade on their trip to Panama as a dental assistant. Being able to work alongside dental professionals and provide quality oral healthcare to individuals from the surrounding under-resourced communities was invaluable. Our brigade treated over 150 patients, allowing me to gain hands-on experience with extractions, fillings, cleanings, and fluoride treatments. However, my favorite parts were interacting with the children and adults who came to our clinics and learning about the diverse culture of Panama. I am deeply grateful to the foundation for allowing me the opportunity to participate in this brigade, and I look forward to bringing back to Alpha Sigma the leadership, initiative, and adaptability skills that I was able to develop.
