Summer Enrichment Scholarship: Raj Talati ’27

Raj Talati ’27

This summer I was involved with expanding my organization, the healing tide. We primarily focus on treating underserved populations through a student-based approach, working with undergraduates, medical students, nursing students, and even residents to allow aspiring physicians the ability to treat patents in a real world setting. This summer, I led my team to expand operations to Massachusetts, Virginia, and South Carolina. The Alpha Sigma Summer Enrichment Scholarship allowed me to attend clinics and provide hands-on care to over 150 underserved patients. In this summer alone, we provided over $75,000 in medical services including EKGs, A1C screenings, nursing physicals, hearing and vision screenings, blood pressure and blood glucose checks, and educational materials. Many of our patients are undocumented individuals who struggle to access equitable healthcare; working with populations similar to these with my team allowed me to truly realize what I aspire to spend my career working towards. This fall, we look to continue our expansion work and plan to host our first events in partnership with public health boards and medical schools in MA, as well as our new “Month of Wellness” full-time care program that we are testing out in homeless shelters in SC. My deepest thanks to the board for allowing me to have this experience.
