Andrew Smith ’28
For my project, I served as director of operations for The Healing Tide, where I organized a free community health fair on June 29 at the Healing Transitions Women’s Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. I recruited volunteers from the UNC School of Medicine and SHAC (Student Health Action Coalition) volunteers, as well as some UNC undergraduates, including fellow Chi Psi Davis Walker. We provided services including blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oximetry, blood glucose and A1C testing, ECGs, vision screenings, and physical examinations. This event was organized to expand access to free preventative healthcare, to identify potential health concerns, and to connect participants with appropriate follow-up care. We were able to provide care to more than 50 community members over the course of the day. Following the success of this event, The Healing Tide plans to continue to partner with the Healing Transitions Women’s Campus and hopes to expand these efforts to the Men’s Campus as well.
Andrew Smith is a biology major from Barnstable, Massachusetts. He attended Phillips Academy Andover. This fall, he will serve on the judicial board at the Lodge.
