Cole Hilbourn ’27
This summer, I worked as a medical assistant at the Hey Clinic for Scoliosis and Spine Care at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Through this role, I gained valuable firsthand clinical experience in several areas, including patient care, clinic operations, and the coordination required among members of a healthcare team. I had the opportunity to learn from an outstanding spine surgeon and a supportive team that was always willing to teach me and to help me grow. This experience gave me a better understanding of the daily responsibilities of healthcare professionals and further strengthened my interest in pursuing a career in medicine. I am extremely thankful for the Alpha Sigma Summer Enrichment Scholarship, whose financial support helped make this meaningful opportunity possible.
Cole Hilbourn is a biology and neuroscience major from Chadbourn, North Carolina, where he attended Whiteville High School. He has served as social chair and risk manager at the Lodge.
