A Report from the #3

Dear Alpha Sigma Alumni,

I am pleased to report on the current state of undergraduate affairs in Alpha Sigma. In the fall semester, the undergraduates elected a new executive team to lead our Alpha through 2026. Joss Gowar ’28 was elected to serve as #1, Van Horvath ’28 as #2, Will Hardin ’29 the #3, and Beau Bennett ’27 stepped into the role of #4. Our new executive team represents four pledge classes and varied backgrounds; Beau is from Winston Salem, while Joss, Van, and Will are out of state students from Kenya, New York, and Alabama, respectively. We are excited for these leaders to continue moving the Lodge forward in action and in spirit!

In January, the undergraduates added eight pledges to their ranks. The spring pledge class of 2026 includes eight freshmen from five states with a wide range of interests. Two from Long Island, Jack Bunt and Christian Duggal, completed the Carolina Global Launch (CGL) Program in Scotland with their pledge brother James Williams, who is from Washington, DC. Two others, Jack Mondello (Los Angeles) and Bryce McLean (Cornelius, NC), completed the program in Costa Rica. Francesc Baizan, from Houston, completed CGL in Spain. Two aspiring doctors from Wilmington round out the pledge class: Jonah Harker and Alex Ulstad. These eight young men have a variety of interests and have already displayed commitment and leadership at Carolina by joining the club soccer and rugby teams, participating in the Undergraduate Law Review, and taking advantage of summer opportunities through the Shuford Entrepreneurship Program. We are looking forward to these gentlemen officially joining the brotherhood!

Alpha Sigma is continuing to lead the way on and off campus at UNC. In the fall ’25 semester, our Alpha ranked #2 in GPA among IFC organizations on campus. While we acknowledge room for improvement, we would like to recognize the hard work and commitment of our undergraduates who strive for academic success. Understanding that academic success is not the only aspect of excellence, I can confidently say that the Lodge continues to seek “In all things, excellence.”

YITB,
